18" x 18" Vintage Obi Pillow
The obi is a long broad sash worn wrapped around the waist of a kimono. There are many different types, the most formal and traditional being the Maru obi. Most popular during the Meiji (1868-1912) and Taisho (1912-1926) periods, their bulk and weight make them difficult to tie by oneself, and they are currently worn only by geishas and brides.
These amazing textiles are too beautiful to be stored away. Surround yourself with our elegant pillows and enjoy incredible pieces of art in your home everyday.
Removable Pillow Cover with Invisible Zipper - 100% silk, exquisite brocade in orange, white, indigo, and purple with a bronze pattern of butterflies, flowers, and swirls. Panels of bronze silk from a vintage kimono flank the obi fabric. The "chop" or sign of the fabric maker that is on the right front panel was found on the inside folded fabric of the original kimono when we took it apart. So this is a one of a kind pillow. This rare vintage obi is from Kyoto Prefecture in Japan.
