While living in Japan as a child it was not uncommon to see someone wearing a face mask.  Many of these were worn if the user had a cold, the smog was bad, or to help keep allergies at bay.  These were not the same as surgical masks that are used in hospitals. While not medical grade, they could keep out larger particles like pollen.  Over the years it has turned into a statement accessory.

Inspired by this cultural perspective of the face mask in Japan, and in light of recent events, we wanted to make these for sale and give the proceeds to the Food Lifeline charity. We are producing these from vintage silk kimono textiles.  Where we have leftover production fabric we are using the small pieces in hand so nothing is wasted.

Our mask has an elastic back band that slides up and down on the side straps. Put the top strap over the top of your ears, and adjust the back band up or down into position for the most comfortable fit.

Shell Fabric - 100% Silk. The woven jacquard has a pronounced raised texture of chrythansmums. Fabric is from the Hokkaido Prefecture in Japan.

Lining - 100% Silk. Luxurious Charmeuse lining in color Black.

Care - Machine Wash Cold on Delicate Cycle in lingerie bag. Tumble Dry on Medium Heat in lingerie bag or hang to air dry. Iron if needed on Silk Setting. Wash with like colors.

Size - One size
