Haoris were coats that were first worn by Samurai men over their kimonos and usually had a family crest on a solid black or subdued fabric. It was used to show their status. This changed in the 19th century when geisha adopted them and made them look fashionable using brightly colored patterns.
These vintage silk haoris have wonderful patterns and the garment is easy to wear as a loose jacket over jeans or a dress. You can easily belt these or use a obi-jime silk cord to tie around the waist for a more fitted silhouette.
We discovered this fun vintage silk haori in this colorful pattern that remind us of being on the beaches of Bali. It is in excellent condition. Rather than take it apart and upcycle into a new garment we felt it was such a special piece that could be worn today as is. So we had it cleaned and are offering it to you.
