Floral Cross is a traditional Sashiko pattern that is hand stitched in this intricate design on cotton fabric. Sashiko literally means "little stabs", which is derived from the way the needlework is done. It is a folk art from Japan that was born from the practical need to mend clothing and create stronger and warmer layers of fabric.
The cotton thread used for Sashiko is important as it has a soft twist that gives loft and dimension to the pattern. The design is stitched on to contrast cotton fabric and then backed with vintage cotton yukata textile, (summer kimono). The batting inside is cotton as well. There is a cotton loop cord which is perfect for hanging in your closet, or on a Christmas tree...they make beautiful ornaments! Approximately 2.75"H X 2.75"W X 5/8"D. Cord is a 4" high loop.
